Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R
Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R - High-Performance Track Tire for Dry Conditions
The Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R is a DOT legal, track-optimized tire designed specifically for dry track use. This tire excels in extreme dry conditions but requires a proper warm-up phase to achieve optimal performance. It’s not suitable for wet conditions, as track tires, particularly when worn, can be significantly affected by hydroplaning. Always drive with caution on wet roads and ensure that vehicle assistance systems are activated.
Tire Pressure Guidelines:
- Road Use: Follow the tire inflation pressures recommended by your vehicle manufacturer.
- Track Use: Start with the road-use pressure and gradually bring the tires up to temperature. Once the tires have warmed up after a few laps, adjust the pressure to optimal operating levels:
- Hot Tires: Best performance is achieved between 2.3 bar (33 psi) and 2.7 bar (39 psi), depending on the vehicle and track. Some models may require a higher pressure than 2.7 bar (39 psi).
- Cold Tires: Michelin recommends cold inflation pressures not lower than 1.9 bar (28 psi). For optimal track longevity, aim for pressures between 2.0 bar (29 psi) and 2.4 bar (35 psi).
- Caution: Regularly check the sidewalls for wear, especially if markings start disappearing, which could indicate low pressure. If this happens, increase the pressure by at least +0.2 bar (+3 psi) to enhance grip and maximize tire longevity.
Alignment Settings:
For optimal cornering speeds and grip, adjust the vehicle’s camber angle for track use. Ideal camber settings range from -1.5° to -3°. Do not exceed -4° of negative camber for track use. For road use, maintain the manufacturer’s recommended settings to ensure proper vehicle handling.
After a Track Day:
After each track session, check the wear on the Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R tires, ensuring the tread depth remains above 1.6 mm. Extended use on curbs or off-track driving can cause damage to the tire’s casing. It’s advisable to visually inspect the tires after each session and consider professional inspection if the tires have been heavily used. Before transitioning back to road use, ensure the tires have cooled and adjust the pressure to the manufacturer’s recommended road settings.
Handling & Storage:
When not in use for extended periods, reduce the tire pressure to half its normal value and store the tires in a clean, dry area away from direct sunlight and ozone-producing sources. Do not use or store the tires in temperatures below -7°C (20°F), as the tire components may crack under such conditions. Always avoid using tires with visible damage, cracks, or breaks to the sidewall or tread. For any doubts, consult your local Michelin technical department.
