NANKANG CR-S
Nankang CR-S is an Extreme Performance summer tyre with a 200TW rating, specifically designed for club racers participating in Autocross, TimeAttack, HPDE, and Circuit Racing events. The Nankang CR-S is now listed in the MSUK Blue Book and is a List 1B tyre, making it suitable for various motorsport events.
The CR-S features an asymmetric tread design engineered to increase rigidity, providing extreme levels of grip while ensuring a direct and precise steering response. Its aramid-reinforced sidewall ensures consistent, responsive handling, offering dependable performance under racing conditions.
After three years of extensive testing, Nankang has developed the CR-S with a clear goal of stepping up from the already successful AR-1 tyre. The CR-S is designed to be faster and more consistent than the AR-1, while also being more road-friendly with improved driving comfort, lower noise levels, and better wet performance. Balancing track performance with improved road use was a challenge, but after much trial and error, Nankang is ready to launch the CR-S in 2024 across the UK and Europe.
Nankang CR-S – User Advice & Scrubbing In:
To ensure optimal performance and longevity, it's essential to scrub in your racing tyres properly. This process prevents issues like "Cold Graining," which occurs when the tread compound fails in shear during the first use, resulting in a visible rippling effect. Scrubbing in helps avoid this and maximizes tyre life.
The standard scrubbing-in procedure involves:
- Subjecting the tyres to one gentle heat cycle
- Gradually loading the tyres while avoiding drifting
- Starting with 50%-60% of normal usage on track, and increasing speed over 3-4 laps without exceeding 85% capacity
- Ending with a cool-down lap
This will help the tyres perform better and last longer in future sessions.
It’s also advised to scrub in a new set of tyres during free practice, as this ensures the tyres are properly balanced and free from defects like slow punctures.
Temperature Operating Range:
- 70°C – 100°C tread temperature
- Tread Temperature Delta: Max 20°C (inside to outside shoulder)
- Measuring Method: Use a needle-style pyrometer to record temperature at the base of the tread.
Proper tyre management ensures consistent performance throughout the race.
